(What) You Oughta Know

Let’s get the basics out of the way. My name is Rachael Chau, I use she/they pronouns. I am a proud “first-and-a-half” generation Chinese-American. I was raised in New Jersey by city folk (the chip on my shoulder just got a little bigger), attended Bergen County Academies in the Theatre Academy for high school, then went to NYU Tisch Drama & graduated in 2020 (hahaaa). I’ve lived in NYC for just about 10 years now, and I love this city with all my heart.

  • I play lots of instruments just okay (piano, guitar, ukulele, flute, bass)

  • Been singing my whole life & I love music!

  • Also have written my whole life & love writing songs, stories, musings, etc.

    • I hold a Scholastic National Gold Medal for Dramatic Writing

  • Participated in the Disney College Program and have been in 2 weddings because of it ♡

Bring Good Energy

I believe that talent, intelligence, beauty are all second to kindness. It’s a top priority for me to be a team player. Nothing can be built upon without trust & respect, and regardless, that is how I’ve always sought to treat other people. I’ve also always been what I call Type B+—organized, but simultaneously go-with-the-flow. Flexibility is one of my greatest skills! (In the figurative and not necessarily the physical sense though. I’m working on it.)

Center Curiosity

I had the great honor to be taught by Betsy Parrish when I attended the Stella Adler Studio of Acting through NYU. Betsy had lived many years by the time my pals & I stumbled into her classroom as 18 year-olds. And yet, how would you have known she was any older?! Betsy was so present, so curious, so witty, and we were told she remained so up until the very end. When I’m being creative, and also when I’m just living life, I think of her. I think of living on the edge of your seat, and what can come from that place of readiness. Thank you, Betsy ♡

I got my professional start & first big credit in video games. I’ve trained and worked extensively in theatre. Co-starred on TV. Originated roles on stage, played iconic (and dreamy) ones. Written & released my own music, as well as pieces written for other projects.

Yeah, I like being creative !! Across many genres. With collaborators old & new. Let’s keep it going!
